Congressman Scott outside TBA

Congressman Scott outside TBA

You never know who you might see in and around the Tidewater Builders Association headquarters building. This week it was U.S. Congressman Bobby Scott.  The visit with Scott followed earlier visits with Congressmen Glenn Nye and Randy Forbes to advocate for an extension of the Federal first-time home buyer tax credit.

TBA leadership has been voicing support of a national initiative to extend the $8,000 Federal first-time home buyer tax credit, set to expire Nov. 30.  The National Association of Home Builders is leading an initiative to extend the credit for another year and to make it available to all home buyers.

NAHB maintains that if Congress extends the tax credit program, it would spur 383,000 additional home sales, including 80,000 housing starts down the road as additional sales help deplete the inventory of unsold homes.  This stimulus will also create nearly 350,000 jobs over the coming year, according to NAHB.

After touring the Building Trades Academy, Congressman Scott headed to Newport News for a spirited discussion of healthcare reform at a town hall meeting.
