Hampton Roads is “our kind of town”

Tired of bad news? Well, here's some good news: We live in Hampton Roads

The teleprompter reads, "Tired of bad news? Well, here's some good news: We live in Hampton Roads." With TBA President Pete A. Kotarides is Cox Communications Production Manager David Ferraro.

After months of giving presentations without a teleprompter, Tidewater Builders Association President Pete A. Kotarides finally got to use one today — in a “confidence” television campaign being produced by Cox Communications to encourage confidence in the region’s healthy economy.

The campaign will feature various community leaders touting the benefits of living in Hampton Roads. The spots are tentatively scheduled for air after Labor Day.

The taping comes two days after Good Morning America touted our area as the best place in the country to buy a house.  Click here to see the coverage.

This comes on the heels of numerous headlines that point to a turning tide in the housing market. Here’s one from the front page of The Virginian-Pilot about summer home sales.  Here’s one about the scales tipping toward buying versus renting.

And here’s one from The Wall Street Journal about home prices rising across the country.

Headlines point to a turning tide in the housing market

Everyone knows it’s a buyer’s market, but what Fred Napolitano Sr. points out is that no one knows how long it will last. As president of The National Association of Home Builders during 1982 — the industry’s worst year ever (till now), he certainly knows what he’s talking about.

In a recent guest editorial, he takes The Virginian-Pilot to task for potentially leading consumers to believe time is on their side and risk losing out on low mortgage rates, low prices and tax incentives.

He cites a number of  indicators that will eventually lead us back to a seller’s market.  Read more about it.   Fred Napolitano Sr. Editorial

Meanwhile, Tidewater Builders Association President Pete A. Kotarides finally has the housing headlines on his side as he points to a turning tide in the housing market.

His guest column in The Virginian-Pilot Home section reports on a number of recent indicators that point to a bottom in the housing market.  Read more about it.  VP Home Column
