WTKR's Sara Morris learns about building codes from (from left) TBA President Pete A. Kotarides, Norfolk Code Official Lynn Underwood and David Leas of Clancy & Theys.
During Hurricane Awareness Week, Norfolk Code Official Lynn Underwood invited TBA President Pete A. Kotarides to join him in explaining hurricane resistant construction methods on WTKR-TV.
They looked at elevated foundations and interior bracing systems in an apartment community under construction in downtown Norfolk, the Belmont at Freemason.
Most of today’s hurricane resistant features are required by the International Residential Building Code and the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, administered by Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. http://www.dhcd.virginia.gov/StateBuildingCodesandRegulations/Virginia_Uniform_Statewide_Building_Code.htm
