August 13, 2008Green Builder magazine is searching for the "Green Builder of the Year" for their first annual awards. Those properties eligible will have had a grand opening or first occupancy between January 2007 and September 2008 and can be single-family, spec homes, custom homes, production, remodeled homes, developments or multifamily with third party certification not an entry requirement. This toolkit is geared towards homebuilders and HBA's on effective storm water and ersosion control techniques. With increased consumer demand for "green building", it can begin with lot development. On June 5, 2008, Chuck Miller with Miller Custom Homes held a "flying debris" demonstration at his 2008 Homearama Green Home "The Mothership". The demonstration simulated flying debris that is common during tornados and hurricanes and how typical construction methods compared to Poly Steel Concrete construction withstand such debris.
