Homearama builder Stephen Alexander Homes & Neighborhoods stole the show by taking home the People’s Choice award for Favorite House, as well as the People’s Choice for Favorite Interior for their entry, The Blue River Cottage. It also won the bronze award for People’s Choice for Favorite Landscaping.

When Tidewater Builders Association’s 2010 Fall Homearama at East Beach was over, and votes had been tallied, it came down to three homes that clinched all of the awards for the People’s Choice in favorite house, interior design and landscaping.

Homearama builder Stephen Alexander Homes & Neighborhoods stole the show by taking home the People’s Choice gold award for Favorite House, as well as the gold award for Favorite Interior. Its Blue River Cottage also won the bronze award for Favorite Landscaping.

First-time Homearama builder Scott Crumley of Crumley Group Inc. won the silver award for People’s Choice Favorite House, the gold award for Favorite Landscaping, and the silver award for Favorite Interior Design. His entry, The St. Mary, served as the Charity House to benefit St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, which will benefit from proceeds from the sale of the home.

Veteran Homearama builder Chip Iuliano of ABT Custom Homes LLC took home the bronze awards for Favorite House and Favorite Interior Design and the silver award for Favorite Landscaping for his entry, The Little Pink Cottage.

His entry, The St. Mary, is the Charity House to benefit St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children.

The People’s Choice Awards were determined by votes from those who attended Fall Homearama. More than 75,000 visitors toured the nine fully furnished and landscaped custom showcase homes, a condominium at The Villas at East Beach and an Idea Marketplace.

The first-place Blue River Cottage (The Idea House), a Tidewater Victorian home, is an Energy Star-certified home that features blown-cellouse insulation, radiant barrier roof sheathing and an energy management system. Design elements include historic details, such as turn-of-the–century portals, handmade-coffered ceilings and fireplace detailing.

Interior design was by Susan Cox of Goodwin Interiors, with furnishings by La-Z-Boy Furniture. Landscaping was by Robert Nye of Renaissance Outdoor Contracting Inc.

The second-place St. Mary is a Dutch Colonial home featuring side and rear private courtyards with pool fireplace, outdoor entertainment area and a finished room over the garage. The home also boasts several energy- saving features, such as concrete block construction, Mediterranean exterior plaster and a conditioned crawlspace, as well as stunning architectural details. The landscaping was designed by Siska Aurand Landscape Architects and landscaped by Carter Winn of Winn Nursery of Virginia. The International Interior Design Association VA/W.VA chapter designed the interior with Deborah McDonald of Image Business Interiors as the team leader. Decorum, Value City Furniture and Kettler provided the furnishings.

The third-place Little Pink Cottage is a Colonial-style home featuring an open floor plan with a chef’s kitchen, keeping room and first-floor master suite. A detached carriage apartment above the garage sits past an outdoor courtyard with an entertainment area, built-in grill, bar, fire pit and outdoor shower. The interior design was by Beth Gilbert of Gilbert Interiors. Value City Furniture, Stein Mart and Kirkland’s provided the furnishings. Landscaping was by Robert Nye of Renaissance Outdoor Contracting Inc.

Of those who participated in the voting, 68 percent said they were inspired by something they saw at Homearama, where the theme was “Inspiring. Enchanting. Life changing.”

Congratulations to Bonnie Daniels and Erica Crawford, who each won a $50 gift certificate to a restaurant of their choice for participating in the voting.

Eight of the nine Homearama homes were under contract or sold before the end of the event. Tidewater Builders Association’s second Spring Homearama is planned for Virginia Beach’s Eagle Nest community in May 2011.
