Sign up today for Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act/Fair Housing Review

Don’t wait until it’s too late to brush up on the law. Join Tidewater Builders Association’s Tidewater Multifamily Housing Council as it hosts Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act/Fair Housing Review with John G. “Chip” Dicks III of FutureLaw LLC. He will be presenting the topic from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, April 12, at the Holiday Inn, 5655 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. Dicks has substantial expertise in the field of landlord tenant and fair housing laws. Anyone in the property management field, from owners, leasing agents, property managers, maintenance superintendents, resident managers and even office personnel, are encouraged to attend.

Attendees can expect to cover current issues on the fair housing front, such as the hot regulatory issues, accessibility, etc. Each participant will take home a notebook including recent General Assembly updates, as well as a current copy of the Landlord Residential Tenant Act, the Fair Housing Act and the Service Members Civil Relief Act. The seminar is certified by the Real Estate Board for licensing and participants will also earn 25 Registered in Apartment or Certified Maintenance Specialist credits.

“This is a program that began in 1978,” said Dicks. “The seminar has evolved into a combination Residential Tenant Law, fair housing and sort of a practical application and an update on what the General Assembly has done in specific to real estate law and in particular Residential Landlord Tenant Law.”

One thing you won’t hear at the seminar is legalese. “People come loaded with questions. I try to answer them in plain English,” said Dicks. “I always try to explain the policy behind laws.”

The seminar costs $85 for Tidewater Multifamily Housing Council members and $125 for nonmembers and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. For more information or to register, please contact Maggie Rickard at 305-9053 or [email protected].
