Chesapeake Homearama offers showcase homes on a grand scale
Edinburgh Meadows in Chesapeake hosts Homearama 2007
Edinburgh Meadows in Chesapeake hosts Homearama 2007

With its large lots, lakes with fountains, and a wooded perimeter, Chesapeake’s Edinburgh Meadows provides the setting for the Tidewater Builders Association’s 26th annual showcase of homes.

Homearama 2007, presented by BB&T, will offer visitors a chance to "explore a place where every home is a castle," the theme of this year’s event. The show features 17 fully decorated and landscaped custom homes on display from Sept. 29 through Oct. 14.

The community is just off the Chesapeake Expressway, offering easy access from all of Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

"Even more remarkable than the beautiful setting is the magnitude of the homes," said TBA President John Ainslie. "There is probably more diversity than ever before at this event. Architectural styles range from French country to traditional ranch. The size of the homes range from 3,500 square feet to a Homearama record 9,500 square feet. As usual, there will be products never before seen at Homearama"

Visitors can expect to see low-maintenance brick and stone exteriors and outdoor living amenities in full splendor, including 12 pools – one that features a two-story waterfall dropping a total of 20 feet. The homes are selling for $1 million and up.

A show feature is The EarthCraft House from Miller Custom Homes that demonstrates the green building trend. It is the first EarthCraft House built in Virginia, east of Richmond. Builder Chuck Miller promises the 5,400-square-foot home can be heated or air conditioned for $92 a month or he’ll pay the difference.

Another special house is the annual Charity House, named The Reece Michael, to benefit Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. Builder Chip Iuliano named it after the grandson of his carpenter, who is a five-year-old born with cystic fibrosis. Proceeds from the sale of the home will go to the hospital. CHKD will host a children’s party there from 1 to 3 p.m., Oct. 6.

The City of Chesapeake is sponsoring a home built by Ken Cohen of Cohen homes L.L.C. which will feature décor and accessories influenced and inspired by the host City of Chesapeake. Special events are also planned to take place at the home during Homearama to celebrate Chesapeake living.

Capitalizing on this year's theme: "explore a place where every home is a castle," The Castle of Dreams, built by Bill Brice of WATAB Construction Corp., has incorporated regal design elements and décor reminiscent of the castles of Old World Europe.

The exhibit center provides a "show within the show" with over 100 booths displaying products and services for the home and garden. Southern Hospitality Auto Group will present the latest model vehicles in the driveways of the homes.
