Home Builders Association Installs 2006 Officers, Directors
Jeff and John Ainslie
TBA past President Jeff Ainslie administers the oath of office to his brother and incoming 2007 TBA President, John W. Ainslie Jr., during the annual Builders Ball and Installation of Officers held December 2 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
John W. Ainslie Jr. was installed as the 2007 president of Tidewater Builders Association, a nonprofit home builders association with 1,200-plus member firms in South Hampton Roads, during its annual installation of officers at the Virginia Beach Convention Center Dec. 2.

Ainslie is president of production at Ainslie-Widener, a building and developing company in Virginia Beach. He has served on the TBA board of directors since 2001. He was TBA vice president in 2006, treasurer in 2005, and secretary in 2004. He has also been appointed by the governor to serve on the Virginia State Building Codes Technical Review Board.

Ainslie also is the incoming president of the Mid-Atlantic Insurance Corp. and Association Publishing Inc. In addition, he will serve on the boards of directors of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Home Builders Association of Virginia (HBAV).
He will also serve as vice chair of the TBA Political Action Committee and as an HBAV alternate legislative representative. The Virginia Beach resident attended Tidewater Community College.

Other 2007 TBA officers installed were:
Edward R. Sadler, president of Sadler Building Corp., Virginia Beach, is TBA vice president. Sadler has served on the TBA board of directors since 2002, and as an NAHB alternate director in 2003 and 2002. This year, he also will chair the TBA Membership/Retention Committee and the TBA Scholarship House Subcommittee. In 2002, he chaired the Chesapeake Municipal Affairs Committee and chaired the Virginia Beach Municipal Affairs Committee for three consecutive years. The Virginia Beach resident is a graduate of the University of North Carolina.

Thomas W. Dye, branch manager for Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery of Virginia Beach, is TBA associate vice president. He was first named to the TBA board of directors in 2005, served as chair of the Big Home Shows Committee in 2005 and 2006, and served on the Picnic Committee from 1999 to 2004. Dye has served as TBA associate director for two years. In the coming year, Dye will serve as vice chair of the TBA Membership/Retention Committee and chair of the Big Home Shows committee. The Virginia Beach resident has a business degree from Radford University.

Pete A. Kotarides, a vice president of Kotarides Builders, Virginia Beach, is TBA treasurer. Kotarides served as TBA secretary in 2006 and as an executive appointee in 2004 and 2005. Kotarides’ firm was involved in Homearama in 2002 and 1998, as developer of Warrington Hall and builder of the Charity House in 1998. He has served on the TBA board since 1998. This year Kotarides will serve as chair of the TBA Legislative Affairs Committee. He served as chair of the Chesapeake Municipal Affairs Committee for six years, and as chair of the Scholarship Selection Subcommittee. In addition, he was named an HBAV legislative representative. Kotarides served as an NAHB alternate director in 2003. The Virginia Beach resident is a graduate of the University of Virginia.

William H. Halprin, senior vice president of S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co., Virginia Beach, is TBA secretary. Halprin served as a TBA executive appointee in 2005 and 2006. He joined the TBA board in 2000 as chair of the Tidewater Multifamily Housing Council (TMHC). In 2001 Halprin was named TMHC’s Multifamily Executive of the Year and in 1995 he won TMHC’s Property Manager of the Year. Additionally, Halprin was an HBAV multifamily representative for four years. This year he will serve as chair for the TBA Shelter Response Foundation as vice chair of the TBA Legislative Affairs Committee. The Norfolk resident earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Old Dominion University in 1974.

Charles J. Miller, president of Miller Custom Homes, Virginia Beach; and S.L. “Sam” Cohen, president of Joey Corp., Chesapeake, have been appointed to the executive committee of the board of directors.

Miller has been a TBA member since 1995. In the coming year, Miller will also serve as a TBA builder director and HBAV Builder Director. Miller served as chair of the TBA Building Trades Academy committee in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and on the TBA Membership Committee as chair in 2002 and as vice chair in 2000 and 2001. Miller is a TBA Life Spike and has built homes in Homearama 2000 and 2002.

S.L. “Sam” Cohen, has been a member of TBA since 1990. In the coming year, Cohen will also serve as a TBA builder director and co-chair of the TBA Building Trades Academy Committee. He first joined the TBA board in 1999. Cohen has built in Homearama since 1997, served as chair of the Homearama Committee two years and built the 2000 Charity House. Cohen is a Chesapeake resident.

 

Newly installed TBA builder directors are: Curtis Cole Jr. of CAJE Group L.L.C. of Norfolk; Pete O. Kotarides of Kotarides Builders, Virginia Beach; Steven E. Lawson of The Lawson Cos., Virginia Beach; and Charles J. Miller of Miller Custom Homes, Virginia Beach.

Newly installed TBA associate directors are: G. Robert Aston Jr. of TowneBank, Hampton Roads; J. Gregory of Horton & Dodd P.C., Chesapeake; Robert S. Duvall of Virginia Natural Gas, Norfolk; and Edward O. Yoder of Resource Mortgage, Virginia Beach.

Also, William A. Brice of WATAB Building Corp., Chesapeake, was installed as Homearama Committee chair, and Jerry E. Pattenaude of Leo F. Johns Contractor Inc., Chesapeake, was installed as chair of the TBA Remodelers Council.

New to the board are W. Trent Dudley of Wachovia Bank, Norfolk, who will serve as a NAHB alternate director and I. Reese Smith Jr. of Reese Smith Construction, Virginia Beach, who will also serve as an NAHB alternate director.

Also installed were Michael D. Newsome of Clark Whitehill Enterprises Inc., Virginia Beach, who will serve a fourth term as TBA Scholarship Foundation chair, and C. Grigsby Scifres of Williams Mullen, Virginia Beach, who will serve as TBA general counsel for the sixth year.
