Home Builders Association Awards Members of the Year

Tidewater Builders Association recognized its Members of the Year, as well as one member of the local media, at its annual Builders Ball at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Friday, Dec. 4.

The Member of the Year Award is given to a member or members who have provided service to the industry above and beyond the call of duty. This year TBA’s general counsel Grig Scifres of Williams Mullen and Emil Viola of Vico Construction were honored with the award. The Virginian-Pilot’s Home editor Victoria Hecht was also honored with the Homearama Extra Mile Award.

Grig Scifres:
Grig Scifres, TBA’s general counsel, volunteered his time to counsel Builder members on weathering the economic climate by negotiating with their bankers and repositioning their businesses. As co-chair of the financial services team at Williams Mullen law firm in Virginia Beach, Scifres focuses his practice primarily on financing, creditors’ rights, commercial and real estate law. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for Banking and Virginia Legal Elite for Bankruptcy/Creditors Rights.

Emil Viola:
Emil Viola, founder of Vico Construction Corp., a Chesapeake company that installs water, sewer and storm drainage systems for commercial and residential developments, contributed to lot preparation for a Chesapeake home that was given to a local veteran through the Homes for Our Troops program. He also assisted with parking lot preparations for the Homearama showcase of homes as he has done for most of the Homearama events in recent years, as well as contributed materially to renovations at the TBA headquarters facility.

Victoria Hecht: Victoria Hecht, Home editor for The Virginian-Pilot, went above and beyond with the coverage of this year’s Homearama at Culpepper Landing. The Saturday Home section of the newspaper on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 informed readers that Homearama was in full swing, thanks to the Hecht’s efforts.
