Thank you for visiting our Web site. Tidewater Builders Association represents more than 1,200 companies who serve the shelter industry in South Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Our members employ more than 30,000 of your friends and neighbors with businesses that provide products and services that go into the design, construction, purchase and renovation of a home. They are engaged in numerous community service projects, including several TBA charitable projects.

We appreciate your interest and invite you to tour our site to find out more about us.

Tidewater Builders Association is a not-for-profit trade association founded in 1953. Our offices are located at 2117 Smith Ave., Chesapeake, Virginia, 23320. Phone: (757) 420-2434.

Our mission: to improve the climate for quality housing for all incomes; promote the growth and development of the shelter industry; promote excellence and professionalism among members through educational and networking opportunities; and support and enhance the community through charitable projects.

TBA is known as one of the premier local associations among 800 state and local associations affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders, with 1,121 member firms.

About one-third of our member firms are home building companies. The remaining members are associates working in closely related fields within the housing industry, such as mortgage finance and building products and services.

TBA is the only local association that claims two past presidents of the prestigious National Association of Home Builders.

Educational and social programs are also offered through two special-interest councils, TBA’s Remodelers Council and Tidewater Multifamily Housing Council, which represents apartment and condominium communities.

BUILDER SERVICES DIVISON

TBA’s builder services division facilitates relationships with local governments and guides builders through any hurdles that they may be facing in local municipalities.

HOMEARAMA

  • Since 1982, the annual Homearama showcases fully furnished and landscaped homes on a single site. The 16-day home show has grown to attract national sponsors and up to 100,000 visitors each year. It has been recognized as one of the top 10 home shows in the country, in the same league as markets such as Dallas and Cincinnati.
  • These events have become a tradition for Hampton Roads families, as well as guests from the surrounding region, extending as far north as Washington, D.C., and Richmond and as far south as Raleigh, NC. Some of our specially-themed homes have attracted national media attention, including The Weather Channel coverage of the hurricane house, and Southern Living magazine’s house plan of the month.

Not only does it serve as a member benefit, but TBA’s Web site has become a virtual shopping center for Hampton Roads consumers in the market for a new home or home improvement products and services.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Since 1965, the Tidewater Builders Association Scholarship Foundation has contributed more than $1 million to over 300 local high school seniors to help them continue with their education, making it one of the largest private givers in the state. Students are selected based on academic performance, community service and financial need. A Young Designers Scholarship Competition awards students and schools that submit winning CAD and hand-drawn house designs.
  • Since 1988, TBA members have lent a helping hand to the community through their generous support of the Tidewater Builders Association Charity House, built annually at Homearama. The 16 houses built to date have raised more than $880,000 for local charitable organizations.
  • TBA is the only home builders association in the nation to operate a pre-apprenticeship training program. TBA’s Building Trades Academy helps fill the local industry’s need for skilled workers and offer career opportunities for economically disadvantaged men and women. Since its inception in 1978, nearly 3,000 students have been enrolled, and 100 percent of the graduates have been employed on graduation day.
  • In 2002 the TBA Shelter Response Foundation began distributing funds to help families who have lost their homes due to unforeseen emergencies or disasters. By working with the local chapter of the American Red Cross, TBA has provided hundred of sweatsuits for volunteers to distribute to families who have had to leave their homes with only the clothes on their backs. In addition, the foundation has provided financial assistance to families displaced by fire to help with their relocation expenses.
