BTA is urgently seeking contributions to keep the program in operation. For nearly 30 years, this program had been able to rely on a stream of funding from the U.S. Department of Labor's Workforce Investment Act. Unfortunately, those days have passed.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we lost more than two-thirds of our funding in 2006 when federal monies were redirected toward national priorities, such as Hurricane Katrina relief and the war in Iraq. With the financial hardships affecting industry and government as a whole, fundraising has become exceedingly difficult for everyone.

We have managed to keep the program alive through a patchwork of grants and contributions from those who saw the value investing in these lives.

Building Trades Academy is also pursuing partnerships with companies and other organizations that want to help, as well as accepting individual donations. Building Trades Academy is a 501(c)3 organization and all contributions are tax deductible.

Additionally, Tidewater Builders Association holds a Charity Golf Tournament yearly around May to raise money for the Building Trades Academy.

However, this is not always enough. We are urgently asking for your help to keep providing quality training and employment for the residents for the residents of South Hampton Roads.
