Homearama guests will get a Taste of Norfolk

Satisfy your senses at Tidewater Builders Association’s Taste of Norfolk at Fall Homearama. For one night only, visitors will be able to enjoy the showcase homes on display while also sampling the delectable treats from some of Norfolk’s tastiest restaurants.

Virginia Natural Gas and Hampton Roads Magazine will sponsor the “Taste of Norfolk” from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at East Beach, located just off Shore Drive.

That’s when eight nearby eateries will be offering up samples for Homearama guests. Participating chefs are from:

House 1: Captain Groovy’s Grill & Raw Bar featuring seashore crab soup
House 2: Carolina Cupcakery featuring sweet, salty and sassy mini gourmet cupcakes
House 3: East Beach Catering featuring shrimp and grits martinis
House 4: Todd Jurich’s Bistro featuring pumpkin and crab soup
House 7: The City Dock featuring crab cakes with sweet chili sauce and she crab soup shooters
House 8: Sandfiddler Café featuring Chix salad, smothered pork chop bites and fiddle cookies
House 9: Cagney’s American Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor featuring country fried steak and pot roast
House 10: The German Pantry featuring German coffees and desserts

Chef Todd Jurich will also provide a cooking demonstration while preparing his pumpkin and crab soup for visitors.

Visitors will vote for their favorite fare to determine who will win the coveted People’s Choice Award. A contingent of local food writers, led by Hampton Roads Magazine’s Food Editor Patrick Evans-Hylton, will determine who wins the Critics Choice Award.

Guests will sample the fare while visiting the nine fully decorated and landscaped showcase homes, as well as luxury condominiums of The Villas at East Beach. Each home displays a distinctive architectural style and attention to detail that is synonymous with East Beach.

In addition to the showcase homes, an Idea Marketplace will offer hundreds of products for the home and garden. Homearama is open to the public Oct. 16-31, noon until 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and until 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Ticket sales will stop one hour before closing.

General admission is $10 for a one-day pass and $17 for a two-day pass. Active duty and retired military guests and seniors (62 or better) get a $1 discount Monday-Thursday. A $1 discount coupon good for Monday-Thursday will be available at homearama.tv. Only one discount applies. No discounts Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Cox Communications customers who present a bill can purchase two tickets for the price of one on Tuesdays, Oct. 19 and Oct. 26. Children 12 and under and guests in wheelchairs are free.

Presenting sponsor is BB&T. Official sponsors are the city of Norfolk, Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Dominion Virginia Power, Monarch Bank, JES, Phillips Automotive, Titan America, Virginia Natural Gas and TowneBank.
