I. Reese Smith Jr. installed on Virginia Beach's Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act board

I. Reese Smith Jr., president of Reese Smith Construction and a member of Tidewater Builders Association’s Board of Directors, has been appointed to the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act Board. The CBPA Board is comprised of nine private citizens who are appointed by City Council. Smith was appointed to a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2012.

Smith has been building homes in Hampton Roads since 2001. The Hampton Roads native has a bachelor of science in finance from George Mason University and a master of business administration from Old Dominion University.

He will be serving along side Jeanne Evans-Cox, F. Dudley Fulton, Michael H. Levinson, Stephen McNulty, Brad Martin, Richard G. Poole, Paul R. Schmidt and Dennis Sobata.

Since Jan. 1, 1991, the CBPA Board has been responsible for the review of various requests to the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Ordinance. This ordinance affects all properties in the city that drain into the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, which is the northern one-third of the city.

In addition, the CBPAO is an effort to enhance the water quality by protecting environmentally sensitive areas such as buffers adjacent to waterways, tidal shores and wetlands, as well as highly erodible soils.
