| Local Home Building Industry Honors Its Superstars | ||
Eagle Construction of VA L.L.C. won the 2007 Stanley Community of the Year Award, for its Eagle Point at Cahoon Plantation community in Chesapeake at the fifth annual Stanley Awards Gala Friday, April 27 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The community, nestled within a gated golf community and reserved for active adults 55 years of age and better, also won Best Community for 250 and Over Homesites. Building industry pioneers Howard Weisberg of Virginia Beach and Julian Rashkind of Norfolk, both TBA past presidents, received Lifetime Achievement Awards during the evening with a tribute to them and their dedication to the local industry. Weisberg is a founder and longtime support of TBA’s Scholarship Foundation. Rashkind served for 20 years (17 as chairman) with the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authoirty. The Tidewater Builders Association Stanley Awards of Distinction for housing industry excellence are named for Stanley Waranch, TBA’s founding president in 1953. Benson Builders Inc. of Virginia Beach won the 2007 Stanley Award for Remodeling/Residential Addition, $200,000 and over, for a residence on Edmonds Road in the Broad Bay Colony community of Virginia Beach. The 2007 Stanley Awards also recognized vendors and suppliers through the associate awards categories. Architectural Stained Glass, Virginia Beach, won the Best Special Feature and the Best in Interior Design awards. Brian Valentine of B. Valentine Construction, Chesapeake, won the 2006 Homearama People’s Choice Gold Award for Favorite Home for The Valentine House: House with Heart. John Outten, development project director of Homearama developer Ainlie-Widener, accepted the Homearama Extra Mile Award for his efforts during the annual showcase of homes.
