"Nail driving" groundbreaking ceremony held for 2007 Homearama Charity House.
Reece Michael Thompson (center) smiles for the camera at the nail driving dedication of the 2007 Homearama Charity House flanked by the house builder, John W. "Chip" Iuliano (left) of Area Builders of Tidewater Inc. and Reece's grandfather, Tim Story (right), a carpenter with Area Builders of Tidewater Inc.
Four-year-old Reece Michael Thompson of Portsmouth was a guest “carpenter of honor” at the dedication of the Tidewater Builders Association’s 2007 Charity House at the site of this year’s Homearama showcase of homes. Proceeds from the sale of the home will benefit Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, where Reece has been treated since birth for cystic fibrosis.

In his honor, the home is being named “The Reece Michael.” It is being constructed by John W. “Chip” Iuliano, of Area Builders of Tidewater, and sponsored by Precon Development Corp and Gateway Bank & Trust.  It will incorporate contributions from suppliers and subcontractors. Reece’s grandfather, Tim Story, is a carpenter with the company and will be working on the home.

Representatives from the City of Chesapeake, Tidewater Builders Association, Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Gateway Bank and Precon, developers of the Edinburgh neighborhood will join Reece as guest carpenters in a “nail driving” ceremony.

The 2007 Charity House is one of 17 showcase custom homes under construction for this year’s Homearama, which is located in Edinburgh Meadows in Chesapeake. Since 1988, TBA members have helped build 18 Charity Houses, which have raised more than $1 million for local children’s programs.

Homearama will be open to the public September 29-October 14. A charity preview event to benefit CHKD is scheduled for Friday, September 28. For directions to Homearama and more information on this year’s biggest home show, visit
