2006 TBA Scholarship House builder gives largest contribution ever
Scholarship House Contribution
TBA Scholarship Foundation President Michael Newsome (left) and TBA President John Ainslie (2nd from right) receive the Scholarship House contribution from Scholarship House builder Ed Sadler and daughter, Lauren Sadler Riddle.

Ed Sadler and daughter Lauren Sadler Riddle of Sadler Building Corp. of Virginia Beach donated a $100,000 contribution from the sale of the 2006 Tidewater Builders Association Scholarship House at Heritage Park in Virginia Beach at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 30.

Participating in the ribbon-cutting were: Virginia Beach Mayor Meyera Oberndorf; Greg and Lisa Phelps, who purchased the scholarship house; and Ed Sadler and daugher Lauren. Also participating in the event were: Virginia Beach School Board Chairman Dan Edwards and School Superintendent Dr. James Merrill. Approximately 50 people attended the event.

Sadler thanked his many suppliers and subcontractors who made the contribution possible by either donating or giving at a reduced cost their products and services that went into building the house. Over 15 of the suppliers attended the ribbon-cutting when Sadler surprised everyone with the amount of check. Said Chuck Clark of Clark Roofing, "I was glad to help out for this cause as Ed (Sadler) has been good to me."

The TBA Scholarship Foundation has given $1.3 million since 1965 to more than 360 local students. Sadler has been a part of the scholarship selection committee for several years and personally knows the difficulty in selecting ten recipients from more than 200 worthy applications. Sadler will be the 2008 TBA President.
