Blue Pete’s sweeps People’s Choice and Critics’ Choice at Homearama’s “Taste of Virginia Beach”

Offering up seared tuna and a seafood wrap, Chef Eric Latschar of Blue Pete’s restaurant took top honors from Homearama guests as well as local restaurant critics at the “Taste of Virginia Beach” event sponsored by Virginia Natural Gas on Oct. 15.

Blue Pete’s competed with four other local establishments that served up samples from their menus in five of the Homearama homes in the Ashville Park community of Virginia Beach.

Patrick Evans-Hylton, food editor of Hampton Roads magazine, who led a team of food writers from his magazine, The Virginian-Pilot and Portfolio Weekly, awarded owners Paul and Holly Veber the coveted Critics’ Choice Award, after commending the other participants on the quality of the fare.

Blue Pete’s also received the most votes from about 600 Homearama guests who voted in the competition to garner the People’s Choice Award, presented by Frank Corbett, manager of market development for Virginia Natural Gas.

Also participating in the tasting were La Bella Italia, Smoked From Above BBQ and Ribs, Havana and zpizza.
