Tidewater Builders Association recruited 235 new members this month during a two-day long Membership Superbowl, a membership drive event. The new total membership of 1,296 breaks the record of 1,217 set in 2004.

TBA is an association of local homebuilders and other home industry trade professionals, supplies and sales and finance professionals. It was one of 10 builders associations in the Home Builders Association of Virginia to participate in the Membership Superbowl. This event was coordinated by The Oliver Group, a Washington state based organization which has been assisting associations across the country with recruitment campaigns.

National City Mortgage, a Virginia Beach mortgage firm, sponsored the Membership Superbowl, which began with a tailgate party on Oct. 16 where teams of TBA members planned their strategies and set their recruitment goals. Working in shifts over the next two days, team members personally contacted potential members by phone. Prizes and incentives were awarded to team members who had the most success with recruiting.

The recruiting team lead by Chuck Miller of Miller Custom Homes and Jack Schoch of J.F. Schoch Building Corp. brought IN 25 new members; the most of any of the teams. Charles Frazier of Platinum Steel Inc. recruited 25 members and won first place honors for recruiting the most members. Pete Kotarides of Kotarides Builders came in second by recruiting 23 new members. Suzanne Britton Waterfield of BB&T was recognized as the Most Inspirational Membership Drive Member

TBA recruited more members than any other participating association in the state and increased its membership by over 22 percent. Statewide, a combined total of 822 new members were brought in during the membership drive.
